Attention senior citizens in the Town of Sand Lake and ALL of Rensselaer County:Through Unified Senior Services at the County, there is a Medi- Van available. Residents will be picked up at home, taken to their appointment and returned home. You must be at least 60 years old. They are asking for 2 weeks notice in advance, if possible. Also through United Senior Services, seniors can find expanded in home services, including food assistance, meals delivered to your home, and even guidance for elder abuse and neglect. Town of East Greenbush Senior Chair Yoga Class will Resume on September 18th
Chair Yoga is held each Wednesday at 11 AM in the Town Hall Community Room. This session will run through December 18th and break for the holidays.
Instructor: Judi England, RN, licensed massage therapist, and professionally certified Kripalu yoga instructor. Judi has offered programs in wellness, yoga, meditation , and stress management for over 25 years throughout the Capital Region. She currently serves as Senior Health Education Coordinator for Jewish Family Services of Northeastern New York, and as an Independent Health Educator for businesses and organizations. Her blog “Holistic Health” appeared in the Times Union for ten years.
Reconnect the body, mind and spirit through gentle movements, breath work and deep relaxation. We’ll work on flexibility, balance and core strength with options to build or modify your practice. All movements will be done seated, or standing with a chair for support. All are welcome to enjoy the benefits of yoga – regardless of physical ability or limitations. For questions call 518-477-4194
Watervliet Senior Center Craft Fair 10/5
Saturday October 5, 9-3pm. Join us for a fall craft/vendor fair, with home goods, food, beauty and accessory vendors and handmade gifts. The Watervliet Library will also be doing adult and kid activities and crafts.
Its free to attend, and there will be a basket raffle, 50/50 drawing, and a concession with chili and cider donuts.

Sand Lake Senior Club
The regular meeting for the Sand Lake Senior Club will be on October 10, 2019 at The Church of The Covenant in Averill Park on Route 43 at 12:00. We will be holding our election of Officers and Committee Chair-persons. We will have a light luncheon following the election. On October 22, we will be having a day trip to the Log Cabin Banquet & Meeting House in Holyoke, Ma. “Octoberfest with the Schnitzel Brothers”. On November 21, a go to luncheon at Paolo Lombardi’s Ristorante. Reservations will be available at our October and November meetings. Our Christmas Party will be held on December 7 at the Poestenskill Fire House. We are in the planning stages for next year’s trips and luncheons, so come and be a part of it.

Grafton Fitness Opportunities
Rensselaer County’s Everett Wagar Senior Center, 2 Roxborough Road, Grafton, has several opportunities to keep our residents 60 and older in shape. Chair Yoga is offered 3 times a week at no charge. This is a low-impact workout for the body and mind. Aerobic Swimming is available on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Bennington Rec Center with transportation. Water aerobics offers a resistance and buoyancy that cannot be experienced on ground. The center has a small exercise room with a treadmill and stationary bikes. Regular exercise reduces the risk of injury, decreased symptoms of depression, and improves mobility. Regular exercise can lower blood pressure, strengthen muscles, correct body posture, relieve pain and promotes weight loss. Residents 60 and older are encouraged to get into a good exercise routine. Poestenkill Seniors
Weekly meetings every Tuesday at 1pm at the Sullivan-Jones Post in Poestenkill. All seniors are welcome. Coffee and refreshments are served after the meeting, followed by Bingo and cards. The hall is handicapped accessible with sufficient parking. The Poestenkill Seniors have catered lunches, pizza, clam steams, fish fries and luncheons at various restaurants, informational talks on senior safety and bus trips to casinos, theaters and other points of interest.

AARP Tax Aide Program
AARP Tax Aide Program is looking for volunteers. The Tax Aide Program is a free tax preparation service for all members of our community. There are many opportunities that are available for our volunteers. Tax Preparers work directly with the tax payer to complete their tax return. Client Facilitators welcome taxpayers and help organize their paperwork. Technology Coordinators manage computer equipment. Local Coordinators who manage the site, volunteers and schedules. Communications Coordinators who help recruit new volunteers. We have sites in Columbia and Rensselaer Counties. Volunteers will receive training. To become a volunteer you will need to register for the Tax Aide Program. You can register at NYTaxAide.org.
