APHS Class of 1989 30th Year Reunion

Planning is in the works to celebrate our 30th year reunion. August 17th is the tentative date and we are currently looking into possible venues. Clinton Heights Area 18th Annual Reunion

The Clinton Heights Annual Reunion will be held at the Melvin Roads American Legion Post, 200 Columbia Turnpike on Friday, September 6th, 2019 (the Friday after Labor Day) from 3:00PM to 7:00PM.  Please come and join us if you grew up in Clinton Heights, Hampton Manor, Prospect Heights, Clinton Park or Hillview in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and beyond.  Everyone is welcome.  If you are in contact with anyone who has left the area, please give them a call also.  This is an informal gathering.  There is no charge but donations to cover expenses would be appreciated.  Please join us for another great afternoon.  For more information, please call Mona Orciuoli at 518-465-9564 or Pam Sanford Dundon at 518-766-9289.

7th Annual CHS 60’s Reunion

Summer is coming and Labor Day will follow, which means the 7th annual CHS 60’s Reunion will be Saturday, September 7, 2019. Please mark your calendar and save the date. As always, we meet every year the first Saturday after Labor Day. All classes from the 60’s including ‘60 to ‘69 along with all pre ‘60’s classes are invited to attend. We will meet again at the East Greenbush Firehouse pavilion on Phillips Road from 4 to 9 PM. Beer, wine, mixed drinks and soda, along with food will be available at reasonable prices. Pictures from previous reunions are available for viewing at www.QECO.com courtesy of Paul Kardos ‘63. No reservation is required. All are asked to pay $5 to cover expenses and the surplus will be donated to CoNSERNS-U for their back to school program. The Columbia High School Class of ’79 40th year reunion will be held on Friday, November 29th, 6:30-11:30 pm at The Century House in Latham.

Wynantskill UFSD- Register Kindergartners Now for 2019-20 School Year

Parents of children who will attend kindergarten at Gardner-Dickinson School in the fall are encouraged to register their children now. Your child must be 5 years old by Dec. 1, 2019 to attend kindergarten in September.

To register, parents are asked to call Ms. Fazioli at 518-283-4600 ext. 10, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Forms and registration information are also available at www.wynantskillufsd.org.

Registering your child for kindergarten now will make sure your child is ready to start the school year by ensuring all the necessary pvaperwork is on file. It also helps Wynantskill UFSD plan for the upcoming school year by providing school officials a better estimate of how many kindergarteners will attend school.

Local Student Graduates from Space Camp

Huntsville, AL – Emily Walsh of Averill Park, NY recently attended Advanced Space Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, home of Space Camp®, Space Camp® Robotics™, Aviation Challenge®, U.S. Cyber Camp® and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center’s Official Visitor Center.

The weeklong educational program promotes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), while training students and with hands-on activities and missions based on teamwork, leadership and problem solving.

This program is specifically designed for trainees who have a passion for space exploration. Emily spent the week training with a team that flew a simulated space mission to the International Space Station (ISS), the Moon or Mars. The crew participated in experiments and successfully completed an extra-vehicular activity (EVA), or spacewalk. Emily and crew returned to earth in time to graduate with honors.

Guilderland Native Serves Those Who Serve in Pearl Harbor

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii –A Guilderland, New York, native and 2004 Guilderland High School graduate is serving in the U.S. Navy at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

Petty Officer 1st Class Micol Zabala serves as a Navy hospital corpsman within the U.S. Pacific Fleet area of operations. The U.S. Pacific Fleet is the world’s largest fleet command, encompassing 100 million square miles, nearly half the Earth’s surface, from Antarctica to the Arctic Circle and from the West Coast of the United States into the Indian Ocean.

As a Navy hospital corpsman, Zabala is responsible for assisting medical providers in the daily medical care of active duty service members, their dependents and retirees.

Zabala credits success in the Navy to many of the lessons learned in Guilderland.

Roger Williams University Announces Spring 2019 Graduates

BRISTOL, RI (07/30/2019)– The following local residents were among the students who received their degrees in May as part of the Class of 2019:

Kaila Kutz of Castleton on Hudson (12033) graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in B.A. in Psychology .

Local transfer students to attend SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO, NY (08/01/2019)– More than 600 transfer students, including several from the area, have reserved places at SUNY Oswego for fall 2019. Classes will begin Aug. 26.

Jessalyn Rodgers of County Route 21 in Schodack Landing last attended Hudson Valley Community College, and is an intended wellness management major

University of Rhode Island graduates more than 3,400 students at commencement

KINGSTON, RI (08/01/2019)– At the University of Rhode Island’s 133rd Commencement on Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19, 2019, about 3,400 undergraduate and 740 graduate students became the University’s newest alumni.
