Grassland Bird Field Day Promises Fun for All Ages

Join Grassland Bird Trust (GBT) for a fun morning of free guided bird walks, bird watching and related activities at two locations in Fort Edward on Saturday, June 8. GBT Guides and DEC biologists will help you spot, identify and learn about a variety of breeding and migratory songbirds, including some of New York’s most imperiled grassland bird species!

Walks begin with a 7:30 am “Early Bird” walk at GBT’s Alfred Z. Solomon Grassland Bird Viewing Area (AZS) with GBT Field Trip Leader Rich Speidel.

Same walk is repeated at 9:30 am with Bo Harris. Preregistration required for both walks. Call Rich at 518-623-2587, Bo at 518-677-3350.

Not ready for a walk? You can still come out to see and learn about our grassland birds and meet a few of our most imperiled grassland raptors! Dan Albano, a GBT volunteer and ornithologist, will be at the AZS Viewing Blind on County Route 42 with a scope and extra binoculars to help you get close views of any birds you spot.

Bird Viewing at both AZS and Little Theater on the Farm starts at 8:00 a.m. and goes until Noon.

Meet a state-endangered Short-eared owl, Red-tailed hawk and American kestrel visiting from the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge from 10 – 12. Visit www.grasslandbirdtrust.org for details.
