Melvin Roads Post 1231 Veteran’s Day Ceremonies

Melvin Roads Post 1231 American Legion will recognize and honor all veterans at their annual Veterans’ Day ceremonies to be held on Sunday, November 11th, at 1:00pm at the Post.  The public is invited to attend this gathering that afternoon with the veterans of our community.  The guest speaker will be NYS Assemblyman Jake Ashby, representing the 107th Assembly District.  A veteran himself, Ashby has served combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned two Bronze Star medals.  He is one of the few leaders in New York State that has served.
One hundred years ago on this date—the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour—the Great War ended.  The name sake of this Post, Melvin Roads died the night before the Armistice took effect. Private Roads served his country and made the ultimate sacrifice.  Post 1231 celebrates his service and the service of all veterans along with their supportive families.  The Post is located at 200 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush.  All in attendance are invited to join in a buffet to follow.
