Rensselaer County Legislative Majority Seeks Pet Supplies for 2022 Golden Tradition “Izzy’s Cause”

Chairwoman Kelly Hoffman has announced the Rensselaer County Legislature’s 2022 “Golden” Tradition: “Izzy’s Cause”.

Each year, the legislature has partnered with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in collecting much needed supplies for their furry friends. The tradition was started by our former legislative colleague, Linda Golden and now, we have added to the cause by honoring a special pet. This year we are dedicating the drive in memory of a sweet girl named Izzy, whose parents both work for the county. Harry and Francesca Tutunjian lost their English Bulldog Izzy last November. She was a local “celebrity” with a huge following and loved by many.

If you are interested in donating, please visit us on Facebook at Rensselaer County Legislators for a full list of items needed. A sample includes canned dog/cat food (any brand), Kongs (L/XL), food puzzles, cat beds, clay cat litter, flea and tick preventative (Frontline, Advantage, Advantix), Greenies pill pockets, leashes and slip leads, dog treats, paper towels, bleach, Swiffer WetJet multipurpose floor cleaner refills, Swiffer WetJet pad refills, new or gently used towels, flat sheets, high efficiency laundry detergent, dishwasher pods, hand soap, lightweight fleece blankets or throws for them to cuddle up in (no comforters, bedspreads or pillows filled with batting).

There will be a blue drop box located at the 3rd floor entrance of the County Office Building located at 1600 7th Ave in Troy, NY 12180. For more information, please call (518) 270-2886.

North Greenbush Fire District 2023 Budget

On Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 pm, there will a public hearing at the Defreestville fire station. The proposed 2023 budget is $1.5 M. I have attended the last few Board of Fire Commissioner meetings where the budget has been discussed, the needs of the town, and the reasons for the changes in the budget. About 20% of the budget is necessary types of insurance. Another 20% of the budget is capital reserve for equipment. In the next 10 years, equipment will need to be replaced and these reserves will help address some future equipment needs. The budget is a good step as we addressing a growing town and new technologies that may pose unique fire risks. I hope that North Greenbush Board of Fire Commissioners can be competitive in the sourcing of equipment and explore novel solutions as new acquisitions and decisions are made for North Greenbush.
