Rensselaer County Legislature Announces Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event

Chairwoman of the Rensselaer County Legislature Kelly Hoffman is pleased to announce that the County will be providing funding to host Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Events in those municipalities that chose to participate.

“The disposal of hazardous waste has been an issue for many residents and communities throughout Rensselaer County. The cost of environmentally compliant disposal has been a barrier for many localities. We believe that this partnership will help with those costs, and we encourage Rensselaer County residents in these municipalities to participate in the program”, said Chairwoman Hoffman

Rensselaer County, the City of Troy, and the Town of Bethlehem, will be partnering on an inter-county Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal program for 2022. The program will consist of six events.

These events, scheduled throughout the second half of the year, will provide residents of the participating municipalities the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials not accepted through normal garbage collection service.

The first event will be Saturday, June 11th, at the Troy Resource Management Facility (Alamo) in Troy (3000 Main St).

Participating Municipalities for the June 11th event:

• City of Troy

• Town of Bethlehem

• Town of North Greenbush

• City of Rensselaer

“These events are great example of local governments coming together to offer a safe and convenient way for residents to safely dispose of household hazardous waste. Scheduling several events means it is easier for residents to access and dispose of these items in an environmentally-friendly manner’, said County Executive Steve McLaughlin.

The disposal event is a free service to residents of the participating municipalities only. Advanced registration is required; residents who have not pre-registered will be unable to participate. Residents must visit their participating municipality’s website to register.

Please be sure to register early as space is very limited.
