Book Nook News

The Book Nook at Transfiguration Parish on Hillview Drive in Speigletown is open from 9:00 am until noon on Saturday, November 16, with the following half-priced author specials:   Mary Higgins Clark, Clive Cussler, Debbie Macomber and John Sandford.  Four great authors at a great price!  In addition to these half-priced specials, we have had a large donation of large print books.  Those books are on special for 3/$1!  They are great novels by some of your favorite authors!  Please stop by and check out these new donations and our selections of biographies, historical novels, cookbooks, children and young adult section and so many other sections.  Thanks for your continued support.  See you at the Book Nook!!

Hope 7 Holiday Vendor & Craft Fair

Join Hope 7 at Franklin Terrace Ballroom, 126 Campbell Ave, Troy, on November 24th, from 11AM-4PM, for our annual vendor & craft fair. This event will have over 70 crafters & vendors for all of your holiday shopping needs. The first 100 shoppers through the door get entered into a special door prize drawing. There will also be a variety of raffles, 50/50, bake sale, free admission & free parking. Proceeds from this event to benefit Hope 7’s food pantry. Bring an unwrapped toy for our pantry’s Santa Shop and receive 5 free raffles tickets! Carol’s food truck will be on site for all you hungry shoppers! 4-H Winter Fair

4-H Invites all youth ages 5-19: Friday, November 22nd – 6:00 to 8:00pm – Brittonkill/Tamarac High School Cafeteria. Hosted by Clover Kids & Critters 4-H Club – or Sunday, December 8th – 1:00pm-3:00pm – Poestenkill Evangelical Church – Hosted by the Green Earthlings 4-H Club

Both locations will have a community service project and a project that can be made and judged on location by entering in the Winter Fair.

Tamarac location: Cupcake Decorating, Create a Holiday Picture Frame, Writing Letters for Luke to Make a Wish, option to adopt a family through Things of My Very Own.

Poestenkill location: several Natural and Recycled Projects, Writing Letters for Luke- Make a Wish, Writing Letters for a Veteran at the Albany VA Hospital. Please bring a canned good for the food pantry.

Church of the Redeemer Thrift Shop

You’ve never visited the Church of the Redeemer Thrift Shop? Christmas shopping season is the ideal time to check us out. We’re overflowing with one-of-a-kind items perfect for gift-giving. As always, we feature clothing, household goods, toys, games, puzzles, CD’S, records, DVD’s, wall decor, etc. The shop will be open on Thursday, November 21st from 3 to 6 and Saturday, November 23rd from 9 to 2. Located at 1249 Third Street in Rensselaer and on CDTA bus route #214, the shop can be entered from the parking lot on the Catherine Street side.

We appreciate all your donations but, please, bring them to us only when we are open.

North Greenbush Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Celebration

On Saturday December 7, 2019 the Town of North Greenbush will host its 5th Annual Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony. Please bring your holiday cheer and help us celebrate. The parade will kick off from the front parking lot of St. Jude the Apostle School promptly at 6:00 pm. The parade will continue directly to Town Hall for a tree lighting celebration complete with refreshments and surprises for the children from Santa himself.

Holiday Happenings in Nassau

Visit from Santa! Holiday ornaments! Tree lighting ceremony! Sunday, December 1st the Village of Nassau will be transformed into a Holiday Wonderland for children and adults.

Santa will be visiting the Nassau Fire Department located on Chatham St. (Rt. 203). Arriving at 3:30pm, he’s inviting children to visit and spend time chatting with him. Santa will be staying until 5pm. Children can also visit the Village Youth Committee who will be making holiday ornaments at the Fire House from 3:30-4:30pm.

When the sun goes down at 5pm, the Village Commons on John St. will be the site of the annual Tree Lighting ceremony.To get everyone into the Holiday Spirit, there will be musical entertainment from members of the Nassau Community Band, a roaring bonfire and a visit from Santa. We will also be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Nassau Resource Center.

Holidays on the Hudson

The Village of Castleton-on-Hudson will kick off the Holiday season on December 1st from 3:30 to 4:30 PM at the Village Hall, 85 South Main Street. This annual event is sponsored by the Village Board, Castleton Public Library, and Castleton Fire Department. Santa will be arriving on a fire truck. There will be story time, a craft, the lighting of the outdoor tree, and the serving of light refreshments. Please join us for this Annual Holiday Tradition.

Vendor Fair at Cornerstone Community Church in Lansingburgh

Saturday, November 30 there will be a Vendor Fair at Cornerstone Community Church, 570 Third Avenue (corner of 115th St) in Lansingburgh.

There will be local businesses including craft items, bakery items, Pampered Chef and Rada. There is also a large selection of Department 56

collectibles on hand. Hours of sale are from 10AM to 1PM. Tables are still available. To reserve yours contact Jill at 518-330-8288. Lunch will be available from 11:30 to 1PM and the church’s thrift shop will also be open from 9AM to 1PM.

East Greenbush Holiday Parade on Saturday December 7, 2019

Please join us for the third annual Holiday Parade hosted by the Town of East Greenbush and the Town Emergency Services. Step-off is at 6:00 PM starting at the East Greenbush Firehouse on Philips Road, traveling north on Phillips to Columbia Turnpike, left on Columbia Turnpike and then left into Becker’s Farm. Following the parade everyone is invited to stop in at Becker’s Farm to have some snacks with Santa!

Christmas Bazaar at Church of the Covenant UM

The Church of the Covenant UM in Averill Park will host its annual Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 7. Come visit the more than a dozen handcraft, gift and food shops designed for all your holiday shopping. You will find plenty of holiday-themed items as well as year-round gifts and decor. On the main level, visit The Doll Boutique with handmade American Girl clothing, the Pet Corner, Collectibles, the Country Store, Handcrafts & Decorations, Holiday Greenery and Religious Items. Be sure to stop by the COC Cafe, specializing in chili, mac and cheese, sausage and peppers, assorted soups and other home-cooked foods. Satisfy your sweet tooth with goodies from the Sweet Shoppe. Downstairs will be “Yuletide for Youth.” There children may decorate cookies, shop in the Kids Only store, play games and make crafts. The Church of the Covenant, also known as “The Round Church,” is at 3055 NY 43 in the center of Averill Park.

Toy Collection in Nassau

As the Holidays approach, the Town and Village Youth Committees will once again be collecting new, unwrapped toys for distribution at the Nassau Resource Center. This year, boxes to accept donations will be found at the Nassau Free Library, Village Clerk’s office (Malden St.), Town Clerk’s office (Church St.), the Town Transfer Center, and the Chandler Young Veterans Association (Lyons Lake Rd.). In addition, there will be a donation box available at the annual Tree Lighting cermony at the Village Commons, John St., Sunday, December 1st, 5pm.

Annual Christmas Bazaar

The Reformed Dutch Church of Schodack at Muitzeskill will be holding its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, December 7th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Church is located at the intersection of Schodack Landing Road & Muitzeskill Road, in Schodack Landing. The Christmas Bazaar will include new and gently used Christmas decorations, cards, gifts, and books, as well as a Luncheon Cafe and a Bake Sale. Town of Sand Lake Holiday Festivities

Mark your calendar! On Friday, December 6th The Town of Sand Lake will be hosting Holiday Festivities. A holiday parade, organized by the town’s Emergency Service Organization will be leaving Miller Hill Elementary School at 7:00 pm and arriving at Butler Park shortly after. After a tree lighting ceremony, Santa will be available for pictures and to hear children’s holiday requests. After the parade the Town will be serving refreshments until we run out.

****We will be collecting toys for Toys for Tots the week prior to the parade, at the Averill Park Fire Department, West Sand Lake Fire Department, and the Sand Lake Ambulance. We will also collect toys at Butler Park after the Parade.

Christmas Fair

The Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church at 175 Fifth Ave. will be hosting a Christmas Fair on Friday December 13th from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM and on Saturday December 14th from 10:00 AM unit 4:00 PM. Come see the luxurious items in Wesley’s Treasures, shop for homemade crafts and baked goods, browse the book nook, pose for a fun festive photo, and join in the fun of our silent auction. New this year, Stu’s Traveling Road Show offering entertainment appraisals of jewelry!

The Castleton-on-Hudson Farmers & Artisans Market (COHFAM) finished the summer season at the end of September, but the fun is not over yet!
