Church of the Redeemer Thrift Shop

Ever-evolving, ever-improving, the Church of the Redeemer Thrift Shop has earned an excellent reputation by offering quality merchandise at bargain prices. The shop features clothing for babies through adults, shoes, jewelry, games, puzzles, greeting cards, household items, knick-knacks, Avon collectibles. We will be open on Thursday August 1st  from 3 to 6 and on Saturday August 3rd from 9 to 2.  As always,  we can accept donations only when we are open.

The shop, located at 1249 Third Street in Rensselaer, is on CDTA bus route #214.

Enter through the parking lot on the Catherine Street side and be amazed.

My Classic Car Show

My Classic Car will be a show and tell program by three local car enthusiasts on Monday, August 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Stephentown Historical Society meeting.  The event will be outdoors at the Stephentown Firehall Pavilion, 35 Grange Hall Road, Stephentown, New York.  The program is free.  Bring a cushion or lawn chair for comfort if you like.  For directions, telephone (518) 733-0010.  Rain will cancel the event.

You will learn a bit about the world of classic cars from Dave Cummings who will bring his 1973 Dodge Challenger,  Bobby Olson with his 1955 Chevrolet four-door sedan, and Dick Rhindress with his 1966 International Harvester Scout 800.  These owners of classic vehicles will share some of the things that make the hobby both interesting and challenging.

Mini-Market and Chicken BBQ

The Reformed Dutch Church of Schodack at Muitzeskill will be holding its annual Mini-Market and Chicken BBQ on Saturday, August 10th. The church is located at the intersection of Muitzeskill Rd. and Schodack Landing Rd., in the town of

Schodack Landing. The Mini-Market opens at 9:00 A.M., while the BBQ will be served from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.

The price for the BBQ is $12.00 for adults and $6.00 for children under 12. Reservations are not required,but the BBQ is served on a first come, first served basis. Take out is available. For further information, call 732-2471.

Celebrate Stephentown 2019

The third annual edition of Stephentown, New York’s annual town-wide community festival, is coming Friday, August 16th through Sunday, August 18th.

This year’s schedule features a diverse range of more than 25 events at 20 different locations throughout the weekend, including open houses, demonstrations, food, music, hikes, kids activities, a car show, an interactive tour of a working farm, a rail trail race, an exhibition of award-winning Vietnam War photos and more.

Jazz On The Hill

Featuring New York Voices, August 17:  Join us for the next big event hosted by St. Peter Armenian Church (100 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet) — the return of “Jazz on the Hill.”  We will be honored with the musical talent of renowned jazz ensemble The New York Voices, featuring our own hometown girl Kim Nazarian Ashby.  The concert will be held under the church’s Postoian Pavilion, rain or shine, on Saturday, August 17, starting at 6:30pm.  Tickets are $35 for adults age 21 and over; $25 for ages 6 to 20; FREE for children ages 5 and younger.  Adults can enjoy a complimentary wine tasting (proper ID required).  Appetizers and soft drinks will also be available to purchase.  Consider bringing a lawn chair as seating under the pavilion will be limited.   Purchase your tickets by calling Marion Kehrer at (518) 461-9325.

Rensselaer County’s Second Annual Farm Day Out!

Join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rensselaer County and The Eckhardt Family at Kinderhook Creek Farm from 12-3pm on Sunday, August 18th, for Rensselaer County’s Second Annual Farm Day Out! Kinderhook Creek Farm is an 1150+ acre field crop and vegetable farm that has been owned and operated by the Eckhardt’s since 1959. Once parked, a hay wagon ride will take you through some of the fields at Kinderhook Creek Farm. Through interactive demonstrations you will learn about the different crops (such as hay, grain, sweet corn, and the many vegetables) grown on this farm. You will also see how their farm products get to market and eventually to your family’s table. Also, be sure to visit exhibits set up by local organizations & businesses, experience the equipment used on the farm by the farmers and see the 4-H Club sponsored petting zoo. Food, corn on the cob, ice cold watermelon and other farm fresh foods will be available to purchase for your enjoyment. Admission and parking for this event is free and open to the public. Cruise on down to the Celebrate Stephentown festival on Saturday, August 17 and check out the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department’s Car Show from 10 AM – 2 PM. Enjoy some delicious chicken BBQ after you have viewed the classic & antique cars and tractors. Walk-ins & spectators attend FREE!

The entry fee for cars and tractor is just $10. Door prizes and trophies will be awarded. Vendors are also welcome; tables are available for $10.

Vendors Wanted for the SonShiners’ 5th Annual Craft-Tag Sale

Applications being accepted for our Annual Craft-Tag Sale of the SonShiners of the Stephentown Federated Church on Saturday, September 21, 2019, from 9 am to 4 pm at Ioka Valley Farm, 3475 RT 43, Hancock, MA. The fee to rent a 10’ X 10’ uncovered space outside on the lawn is $20. Bring your own tent/cover, tables, chairs. The 43rd Annual Flea Market at the Niskayuna Reformed Church, 3041 Troy Schenectady Road (route 7), Niskayuna will be held Saturday, September 28th from 9 am to 4 pm rain or shine.

The flea market is 4 miles west of northway exit 6 on route 7. Parking donation is $2.00

Newly arrived clothing and household goods every week, special occasion dresses and gowns, jewelry, purses, shoes, toys and over 1000 books.

Greenbush Garden Club Awards Grants

Each year the Greenbush Garden Club awards grant to local schools or community organizations for educational programs and/or community beautification projects, ideally targeted to kids.

This year the Club awarded grants to the Robert C Parker school for a ground cherry garden and to the Green Meadow School for a rock garden.  We wish them every success with these projects.

Money for the grants and the Club’s Garden Therapy program at Van Renesselear Manor is raised at our plant sale which is held in May of each year.

New members are always welcome. The Club meets at the East Greenbush Library.  For the months of September, October and November of this year we will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.  We hope to see you then.

48th Annual Festival Of Nations

October 20:  The 48th Annual Festival of Nations will be held at The Egg on Sunday, October 20, 12-5pm.  We are pleased to announce that Miss Gloria Doudoukjian, daughter of Rev. & Mrs. Stepanos Doudoukjian, will participate in the Festival of Nations as ‘Miss Armenia.’  Congratulations to the Doudoukjian Family!  In the coming weeks, Rafi Topalian will be available at the church following services on Sundays for information on admission and/or raffle tickets, sponsorship ad participation, and general information.  Or, for more information, contact Rafi at (518) 272-2000 or rafitop@nullaol.com.
