Workshop Explores New Vision for Troy-Menands Bridge

The New York State Department of Transportation is embarking on a Planning and Environmental linkage (PEL) study to replace the Troy-Menands bridge. Many area residents travel this bridge on the way to 787, Colonie and points west so its construction will have a tremendous impact on Rensselaer County.

In mid November, the DOT and its consultants on the project hosted a workshop at HVCC ‘s Bulmer Communications building where DOT provided information and sought feedback on the project. Following the presentation, attendees participated in interactive breakout sessions.

Key themes that emerged during these sessions were improving pedestrian and cyclist enhanced access while minimizing traffic impact on many of the residential neighborhoods nearby. Many public officials attended including Assemblyperson McDonald, Troy Mayor Madden, Troy Councilwoman Emily Menn, Troy planning staff and representatives of North Greenbush emergency services.

There will two additional future workshops as the project progresses.
