Shakespeare Festival Will Open!!
WOODSTOCK, NY – Celebrating its 25th Anniversary, the Woodstock Shakespeare Festival will go on this summer to feature William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (Abridged). Three actors in the Bird-On-A-Cliff Theatre Company found and will stage what they believe is Shakespeare’s first play, written when he was only 17. In only 90 minutes they must perform 47 of Shakespeare’s villains, kings and heroes. They will play on the Festival’s outdoor stage in Woodstock, where there is plenty of fresh air and room for social distancing, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, August 7 – September 6. Show time is 5:30pm. There is no formal charge for admission, but a donation of $10 is suggested.
North Greenbush Summer Concert Series
NORTH GREENBUSH – North Greenbush Town Supervisor Joseph Bott is pleased to announce the schedule for the 2020 North Greenbush Summer Concert Series. The concerts will be held on Sunday evenings from 6pm – 8pm at the Gazebo behind Town Hall. We invite everyone to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs.

Friday, August 7th – Comedian Dee Watson will be performing stating at 7 pm at Hanover Square, 435 New Karner Road (Hill Door Entrance). $12. Social distancing and masks required.
Friday, August 14th – Entertainer Extraordinaire Miss Carla Page will perform music from the 50s, 760s & 70s. Show starts at 7 pm. Note that she will also be performing on September 4th again. Singles Outreach is a NYS non-profit organization, open to those who are never married, single, divorced, widowed or legally separated. It was incorporated as an activities organization that provides all types of activities for singles, including dances, discussion groups, live entertainment, picnics, , etc. to mention only a few of the more than 30 activities that we plan each month. This is not a dating organization.
Our activities and programming leaders have worked hard to provide a safe, healthy environment, which will meet all CDC guidelines in order to keep our members safe and still enjoy the weekly and daily activities.

Geology of the Rensselaer Plateau, with Bill Kelly
RENSSELAER COUNTY – Thursday, August 13, 7 pm, via Zoom. Presented by Bill Kelly, this will be a reprise of the inaugural lecture of the RPA lecture series presented some five years ago. Geology determines the nature of the Plateau. Bill will establish the overall structure of the Taconic Mountains. He will then examine the Taconic Rocks of Rensselaer County and eastern Albany Counties, with an emphasis on those that comprise the Rensselaer Plateau. Adult Tractor Safety Workshop Updated
RENSSELAER COUNTY – Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rensselaer County is excited to offer a Tractor and Farm Safety Course on Tuesday, August 18th at 6:30 P.M. This program is geared for adult audiences. Statistics show that farming and operating equipment is a hazardous and dangerous endeavor. Help yourself reduce the risks of an accident and attend this informative morning session. The program will consist of a very detailed presentation from the New York Center of for Agriculture Medicine and Health (NYCAMH) followed by a Q&A. This program is perfect for farmers old and new as well as any adult who currently works with machinery on the job, in their backyard, or plans to in the future. Due to COVID-19 and wanting to keep our participants safe, this program has been moved to a virtual format. Retreat with Jane Austen on Lake George
LAKE GEORGE – Join the Jane Austen Society North America (JASNA)-New York Capital Region for the 9th Annual Jane Austen Retreat at Wiawaka Retreat Center for Women on Lake George, New York, on August 28-30. Participants will join scholars and enthusiasts in exploring Austen’s world through facilitated discussions, viewing and discussion of a filmed adaptation of “Lady Susan,” and special sessions led by the featured presenters, concluding with a Box Hill Picnic. In addition to planned events, the retreat will allow time for you to enjoy the splendors of the beautiful Lake George setting by exploring the cottages and grounds, the gardens and the large dock and swimming in the lake. Event registration and check-in will begin Friday evening and events will conclude Sunday after lunch. Space is limited due to COVID-19 safety protocols, so register ASAP.

Literacy 5K Run/Walk – with Virtual Option
SCHODACK LANDING – The Literacy 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, September 19 from 8:00-11:30 a.m. at Schodack Island State Park. For those who choose not to join the event in person, there will be an option to participate as a runner or walker virtually. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome to join the 5K trail run, youth mile, story walk, nature walk, and other activities. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest runners in various age categories. All proceeds will benefit Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County’s programs and services for adults and children in Rensselaer County and nearby communities. SAND LAKE – Save the dates… and your stuff! The 10th Annual Town Wide Garage Sale is scheduled for the weekend of September 19, 20. The Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake Fundraising Drive
SAND LAKE – The Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake is supporting a charity fundraising drive within the Averill Park Central School District to benefit the Capital Region’s Ronald Mc Donald House. The fundraising drive has been extended until February 28th since schools have not been in session for over four months. The goal remains to collect enough pull tabs from soda, beer, soups and pet food cans to fill a school bus!
We ask that parents of our school children and other interested citizens join this effort by removing and collecting as many pull tabs as possible during the months ahead and while schools remain closed take them to the Town Clerk’s office at Sand Lake Town Hall. When schools reopen all collected pull tabs may again be dropped off at the office of one of our three elementary schools, the Algonquin Middle School’s office or to the office at the Averill Park High School.
