Craft Fair at Pittstown Church

PITTSTOWN – Craft Fair on Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Pittstown United Methodist Church Hall, 45 Old Route 7, Valley Falls, NY 12185 sponsored by the United Methodist Women of Pittstown. Sand Lake Town Library Board of Trustees

SAND LAKE – The Library Board of Trustees will hold their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Thursday, May 20 at 6:45pm. Items to be discussed include the annual June Book Sale and Library Fair and the ongoing reopening phases. Capital Region Social Happenings Concert Series

She also has a radio show on WPTR 1240 AM or WPTR 97.1 FM on Saturdays and Mondays at noon where she plays Mo-Town music.  CDC & COVID compliant. Seating limited if indoors. The Capital District Genealogical Society Presents Genealogy and German Jews: A Success Story in Reconstituting an Entire Family

CAPITAL DISTRICT – Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. via Zoom. This presentation will offer tips and tricks for finding German and Jewish ancestors through the lens of a 30 year effort to document and connect all persons who descended from two half brothers.

Speaker Michael Tuteur has been an amateur genealogist for over 30 years. A Harvard graduate, he has been researching and documenting his ancestors and relatives within Europe. Learn how to apply his tips and tricks to your own research.

Evergreen Cemetery Association Meeting 2021

WYNANTSKILL – Evergreen Association of Wynantskill, NY , will hold its annual meeting on Monday, May 24th at 6:30 pm. at the North Greenbush Town Office Building. located on Main Avenue in Wynantskill. (use back entrance). If you are a Deed Holder or Family Member of Lot owners, We invite you to attend this meeting.  We  are in need of new volunteers and help in keeping our cemetery well taken care of.  Many lots are still available for purchase. City of Rensselaer 2021 Memorial Day Parade

RENSSELAER – The City of Rensselaer and the Gerald O’Neil Post are happy to announce that we will have our traditional Memorial Day Parade this year!!!

The Veteran’s Memorial Day Parade will step off at 2:00pm on Sunday, May 30, 2021 from the intersection of Washington Avenue and Forbes Avenue and the Parade will go from Washington Avenue to Third Street and then right onto Partition Street crossing the Veteran’s Crossing Bridge. The Parade will continue on Broadway to Third Avenue and end at the intersection of Walker Street and Third Avenue.

The Opening Ceremonies are at 1:00pm at the Doane Stuart School Parking Lot and the Closing Ceremonies are right after the Parade at Huyck Square.

Please be sure to follow all New York State and CDC guidelines while enjoying the Parade this year and note that in the event of unforeseen circumstances the Parade could be cancelled due to an Executive Order. If that should occur, a notification will be given on this site and in the media as soon as possible.

Please come out and enjoy the Parade this year!

Call for Entries at Sand Lake Center for the Arts Gallery

SAND LAKE – SLCA and A Still Small Voice 4 U are calling on visual artists for the 2021 Summer Juried Art Show! Artists of all media are invited to submit up to two works for this show titled “Hands”, inspired by the song by Phil Ochs. Submissions should be sent to slcagallery@nullgmail.com in jpeg format by May 31, 2021. Selections will be announced by June 4, 2021 and selected works must be delivered to Sand Lake Center for the Arts on Mondays (or by appointment) beginning June 7th. All selected pieces must be delivered by June 28, 2021. Twenty pieces will be selected with first, second, third, and people’s choice cash awards. This year’s juror is Phil Williamston. Sand Lake Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

SAND LAKE – This year’s Sand Lake Memorial Day Parade will be Monday, May 31st., at 10:00am. The Parade route is from Averill Ave. in Westfall Village to the Sand Lake Veteran’s Memorial Park on NYS Route 43. Ceremonies will begin at about 10:30.

To attract more participation and attendance this year, we encourage all interested civic organizations, businesses, churches, community and youth groups and individuals to participate in this year’s parade.

Our honored speaker is Paul Glasser, Jr. upon his graduation from Averill Park High School in 1989 was assigned to Parris Island Recruit Depot for recruit training. Upon graduation from Paris Island, Paul was assigned to Field Radio Operator school in 29 Palms CA and then received his permanent duty station assigned as a Radio Operator in the Artillery Fire Director Center with Hotel Battery, 3rd Battalion 12th Marines, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Mar Division Camp Lejeune NC.

In Nov 1990 Paul was deployed to Southwest Asia to support Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm. During the operation Paul’s unit successfully completed numerous fire missions in combat and his unit received several citations for exemplary performance in combat to include the Navy Unit Citation for heroism in action against the enemy.

Paul is currently employed with the Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety 911 center and serves as Communications Coordinator. He is member the Averill Park Fire Department and has served as its Chief. Paul has served as, Chief of Sand Lake Ambulance, Twin Town Little League Coach and Board Member, Averill Park Pop Warner Football Coach, Adult Leader of Boy Scout Troop 526 and is a member of VFW Post #3025

Refreshments will be provided by the Kiwanis club of Sand Lake.

Castleton/Schodack Living Veterans Motorcade To Honor Veterans Killed In Action

CASTLETON/SCHODACK – Attention all Schodack area veterans: Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, there is no Memorial Day parade in Castleton, but we are asking our area veterans to join our motorcade to honor veterans killed in action. Your personal vehicles will be escorted by police, fire, and ambulance apparatus. The motorcade starts at the Maple Hill Jr/Sr High School at 10 AM and runs through parts of Schodack near and in the Village of Castleton. If possible please put signs on your vehicle showing your branch and when you served (ie. Army WWII, Marines Desert Storm, etc.). LVORC’s Scrabble Challenge “Home Edition”

RENSSELAER COUNTY – Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County welcomes SCRABBLE enthusiasts and anyone who wants to have fun playing as a team or individual to join us for SCRABBLE Challenge “Home Edition” between Thursday, June 3 and Monday, June 7, 2021. Competitors will play two SCRABBLE games at home and share scores and photos. All will meet via Zoom on Thursday, June 10, when winners will be announced. Prizes will be awarded to winners in each category. There will be “door prizes”, too!

Proceeds from this event will help LVORC to provide free literacy services to adults and children in Rensselaer County and Albany County. For more details and event registration, visit www.lvorc.org.

Emergency Food Collection Saturday

NORTH GREENBUSH –  On Saturday, June 5 from 10am to 2pm there will be a food collection event at Hope Lutheran Church, 470 Winter Street Extension in North Greenbush. In addition, there will be a bake sale with all receipts being divided between CoNSERNS-U and Doors of Hope food pantries.

This event will be entirely outdoors in the church parking lot. To join this important event, just fill a bag with non-perishable food items and bring them to the parking lot. There will be people on hand to accept your donations.

While you may think that the pandemic crisis has passed due to some opening announcements, the fact is the crisis is not over. There are still many people out of work, many people that are just squeaking by on what little they have. These people and these food pantries are in need. We have food-challenged people in all our neighborhoods, and this is your chance to help. We’re not asking a lot, just a little from many of you and then there will be a lot.
