The Capital District Humanist Society Presents: Life After Deaf: My Misadventures in Hearing Loss and Recovery

CAPITAL DISTRICT – One night in 2010, Noel Holston went to bed with reasonably intact hearing. By dawn, it was gone, beginning a process of misdiagnoses, an obstinate health-insurance bureaucracy, failed cochlear-implant surgery, and a second surgery that finally worked. This presentation will tell the story of how he regained his hearing, and of a great marriage that weathered serious testing.

Noel Holston, of Athens, GA, is a Pulitzer Prize nominee whose writing has appeared in more than one hundred publications, including the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, Huffington Post, and New York Daily News.

This program will take place online, via Zoom, on Sunday, May 9th, 2021 at 1 PM. Current paid CDHS members will automatically receive an invite to the meeting via e mail.

Any one who is not a current paid member of cdhs can request an invite to the meeting by emailing:  Webmaster@nullhumanistsociety.org.  Please send the request several days prior.

Community Conversation: Data Privacy & You

RENSSELAER COUNTY – Why does my social media account send me ads after mentioning something I want to buy? Am I allowed to ask an organization to delete my information from their systems? If I use my customer’s information for something unrelated to their account, could I be sued? Data Privacy is an issue that is forcing many questions and confusion. As social media platforms take center stage during Congressional hearings and public and private sector organizations face significant regulatory changes, it it helpful to have learn about rights, responsibilities, and best practices that we can use at home or work. On Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 5:30 PM, Justan Foster will offer a virtual opportunity to learn about the role of Data Privacy in your life and business. Justan Foster is a graduate of the Cybersecurity & Data Privacy program at Albany Law School and candidate for Rensselaer County Clerk. The event will be hosted via Zoom with an option to attend by phone, and is being offered to the public at no charge. To learn more about the event and Justan, visit www.FosterRensCo.com, email info@nullFosterRensCo.com or call (518) 965-2389.
