Easter Bunny Drive-By
NORTH GREENBUSH – On Saturday, April 3rd 2021, the Town of North Greenbush will be hosting an Easter Bunny Drive-By around town. The Bunny will be heading to several areas of town to come and see the children of North Greenbush. He has chosen locations for everyone to come out and park and be able to catch a glimpse of him throughout the day starting at 10:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. His map location will be on our town’s website at www.townofng.com
Make a sign for the Easter Bunny to see, he will wave and be as happy as he could be!
Gilead Lutheran Church Easter Egg Hunt

HVCC Hosts Virtual Concert by Finger Lakes Guitar Quartet
TROY – The Finger Lakes Guitar Quartet – featuring Joel Brown, Brett Grigsby, Sten Isachsen and Paul Quigley – will draw from its eclectic repertoire that spans five centuries for a virtual concert at noon on Thursday, April 8. The hour-long program is presented by Hudson Valley Community College’s Cultural Affairs Program. Please visit www.hvcc.edu/culture to register for access to the live-stream event.
The Finger Lakes Guitar Quartet has performed at the Eastman School of Music, Ithaca College Guitar Festival, Keuka College, Utica College, Sandisfield Arts Center in the Berkshires, and the Cleveland Guitar Society and Marietta College in Ohio. Individually, the quartet’s members have performance, collaboration and recording credits too numerous to list.
Each FLGQ member is an accomplished soloist who also teaches. Joel Brown is a senior artist-in-residence at Skidmore College. Brett Grigsby is a member of the music faculty at Skidmore College, in addition to teaching one-on-one and coaching several guitar ensembles. Sten Isachsen directs SUNY Schenectady’s undergraduate Music Audio Technology programs and its Guitar Performance program. Paul Quigley is a faculty member at both SUNY Schenectady and SUNY Adirondack, where he teaches classical and electric guitar.

The Capital District Humanist Society Presents Quackery: A Neglected Population Health and Societal Menace
CAPITAL DISTRICT – Quackery (AKA health fraud scams) is a widespread health and societal menace that is marketed with euphemisms such as “alternative,” “(w)holistic,” “integrative,” “natural,” and “functional medicine.” Dr. London will discuss what quackery is, how it’s promoted, why consumers are vulnerable to it and how it harms them, why it’s pervasive, and the challenges in combating it.
William M. London, Ed.D., M.P.H. is a professor in the Department of Public Health at California State University, Los Angeles. He’s the editor of the newsletter Consumer Health Digest, co-author of the college textbook Consumer Health: A Guide to Intelligent Decisions, and an online Consumer Health columnist for Skeptical Inquirer.

Capital Area Beekeepers Meeting
CAPITAL DISTRICT – The free monthly meeting of the Capital Area Beekeepers is scheduled for Wednesday April 14th at 7pm. The meeting will be held via Zoom. The main topic for this month is Planting for Pollinators. Our presenter will be Tim Kennelty who has been a Master Gardener volunteer in Columbia County for the past 5 years. He is also a trained Master Naturalist through Cornell Cooperative Extension and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Columbia Land Conservancy. He has gardened in Columbia County for more than 30 years and has developed a passion for preserving native species and combating exotic invasive plants.Trees and plants for pollinators are one of the things we can all do to support honey bees and other pollinators as well. Spring is a great time to plant so please join us. As always there will be time for Q&A with Tim or with any of the beeks in attendance. There will an opportunity at this meeting to buy a ticket to win a nuc this spring from local beekeeper, Bee Hollow Farms. Mohawk Hudson Chapter of the Antique Outboard Motor Club Inc. 6th Annual Swap Meet
CAPITAL DISTRICT – Current President Michael Glenn announces that the 6th Annual Swap Meet of the Chapter will be held again this year at the Schrader and Company Offices. The event is planned for April 24, 2021 and will be held on the property of the Schrader and Company in Burnt Hills, New York. Attendees come from throughout the Northeast as well as local members and the general public is welcome to attend at no cost. There is no admission fee and no fee to display/buy/sell/trade.
The day is planned to begin at 9:00 AM as a casual open air event that is expected to last until 2:00 pm. The event includes the buying, selling and trading of antique and classic outboard motors, boats and related items from attendees/vendors. Additional vendors are welcome at no cost. The general public is welcome. There will be food available for a donation for morning coffee and donuts and lunch at noontime.
The swap meet is held in an Antiques Roadshow type atmosphere and interested parties can get parts, advice and resources for their old outboard motors and boats, as well as an outlet to bring their motors to put them in the hands of a collector who can restore it. There will be judging of motors in several categories.
The Chapter, organized in March of 2005 has experienced growth over the last 15 years.

Lansingburgh Historical Society Historical Walking Tour
LANSINGBURGH – Lansingburgh Historical Society will host a very popular historical walking tour again, as requested by many. The tour will be given by Michael Barrett at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 24, 2021. Lansingburgh pre-dates Troy with the settlement starting before 1740 and the founding of Abraham Lansing’s village “New City” in 1771. Several pre-revolutionary buildings are still standing including the Revolutionary War Hospital. Also featured are several industries and old homes including those of Herman Melville and President Chester Arthur. You will meet Michael at the Melville House, 2 114th St., Troy, NY 12182. Artists of all media are invited to submit up to two works for this show titled “Hands”, inspired by the song by Phil Ochs. 4-H Tractor Safety Program (HOSTA)
RENSSELAER COUNTY – May-June of 2021. Open to all youth ages 14 and above.
Rensselaer County 4-H would like to welcome all area youth 4-H and non, 14 years old and older to participate in the 2021 Capital District 4-H HOSTA/Tractor Safety Program. This program is a great opportunity for youth who currently work on farms or around machinery, those who will be seeking employment on a farm, or anyone who would just like to learn more about farm and machinery safety.
The focus of the curriculum is safe operation and maintenance of large equipment, personal protection, chemical, mechanical and electrical hazards as well as live- stock handling. Employers and parents should be aware that youth aged 14 and 15 years who are not working directly for their parents must have a tractor operator certificate to legally operate large equipment according to OSHA. HOSTA will prepare participants and qualify them to earn a tractor operators certificate if students attend all classes as well as pass a written and operator’s exam.
Due to COVID-19, this year’s program will look slightly different. An orientation, farm tours, and various presentations will take place via Zoom on the evenings of May 6th, 13th, 20th, and June 3rd. A chance to practice using equipment will be held on the morning of June 5th at the Washington County Fairgrounds. The written test will be done virtually though Qualtrics, and the skills test will happen in-person on the morning of June 12th at the Washington County Fairgrounds.
Cost of the program is $35 and will be due on the first day of class.
