Glendora Vegetarian Club

An article in the American Vegan Quarterly states that it is not possible for a Native American to be a vegan. Read it in the Summer 2021 issue, page 24, by Vincent Schilling.

According to the American Vegan Society, “a vegan (pronounced VEE-gun) is one who eats only from the plant kingdom: vegetables, fruits, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds. Vegans express nonviolence towards animals and the Earth. AVS promotes good health practices and harmonious living.”

AVS further explains that “cattle farmers want a monopoly on the use of common meat and dairy product terms. Let’s talk about dairy. We approve defining dairy products, but not their way. Since the words milk, cream, butter, and cheese have been used for centuries for various products, we need to use precise language. We propose the dairy farmers label their products as cow’s milk, cow’s cream, cow’s butter, cow’s cheese, goat’s cheese, etc.

Coconut milk has been around since early human times. The history of soymilk and soy cheese (tofu) production goes back two thousand years. Indigenous people on this continent made milk and cheese with nuts long before Europeans arrived. Today’s markets offer soy, almond, rice, seed milk and oat milks.”

Jokes:

1. A little girl was sent off to Sunday school with a quarter to put in the collection basket and a quarter for herself. As she was skipping and hopping and singing down the sidewalk, one of the quarters slipped out of her hand, rolled down the sidewalk, and dropped into the drain. She went to the drain, leaned over and said sadly, “There goes Jesus’s quarter.”

2. On their 1st date, the young man was ordering her dinner from the menu. He said to her, “How do you like your rice, boiled or fried?” She said, “Thrown.”
