Glendora Vegetarian Club

Before his death in 2000, H. Jay Dinshah was a leading voice in the  cause of veganism. His primary argument was an ethical one. He believed it is necessary to be kind to all beings; therefore one should eat plants instead of animals. However he noted that there is another compelling reason to abstain from eating meat. Indeed the overwhelming “human greed for meat” causes  major environmental stressors. For one thing, when huge tracts of rain forests are razed in order to establish grazing pastures for beef cattle and farmland for growing crops that will feed these animals, fragile ecosystems that support the health of the planet are destroyed. Furthermore, the vast amounts of methane gas that are released into the atmosphere by cattle contribute greatly to the problem of global warming. More information about how veganism sustains not only human health but also the health of the planet can be found in the book Powerful Vegan Messages by H. Jay Dinshah and Anne Dinshah.

The vegan commercials to help people change over are dancing on Channel 6 CBS News between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. They are so USA, so American, so down home.

Jokes

1. A neurotic dreams of castles in the air. A psychotic lives in castles of the air. A psychiatrist collects rent from both of them.

2. A group of women met every month in the same room in the home of their hostess. One week the room looked so much better. “Do you have new carpeting?” No. “Do you have new drapes?” No. “Do you have new wallpaper?” No. “What did you do to make this room look so much better?” I took down the ironing board,

Gilead’s Body & Soul Pantry

CENTER BRUNSWICK – As usual summer is flying, either that or it is just because I am getting older. We are still in hopes we can continue to let you into the building, a few people at a time. Unfortunately, we will still require you to wear masks.

We are still assessing what our dinners are going to be for the future. Until we can put this virus behind us, I am afraid we will still be looking at take-outs. We are up to the challenge to do this if you would like us to continue the take-outs.

First time you heard about us? Where have you been? We are located, in the Fellowship Hall of Gilead Lutheran Church, at the intersection of routes 7 & 278 in Center Brunswick.

We look forward to seeing you on the 27th for your grocery pick-up.

Gilead’s Annual Chicken Barbeque

CENTER BRUNSWICK – Circle Saturday, September 12th on your calendar! A delicious meal begins at 4:00 PM and end at 6:00 PM. This fabulous feast takes place at the Gilead Lutheran Church located at the intersection of Routes 7 & 278 in Center Brunswick. For as little as $10.00 you get half a barbequed chicken, baked potato, corn on the cob, cole slaw, brownies and cookies for dessert. Please call Jen at 518-248-1295 for reservations as this sells out fast. Due to Covid 19 restrictions and regulations, this year our dinner can be take-out only. Gilead is again handicapped accessible.

Please don’t plan on “winging” it. You want to get a “leg” up on everyone else. It is also a good way to keep “abreast” of what is happening at Gilead. Don’t be left without a meal. Call now for your dinner!
