Glendora’s Vegan Club

RENSSELAER COUNTY – Glendora, in conversation with Freya Dinshah of the American Vegan Society, asked what were the most important things that happened in the vegetarian world in 2019. In no particular order:

Impossible Burger and Beyond Meat products entered the Fast Food market. These burgers contain no meat; they are made from soy and pea protein with grain and vegetable ingredients. With the sizzle, chew and juiciness of the meat they vie with, they are catching on fast. They can also be found at many restaurants and purchased at food markets. See: Impossiblefoods.com and beyondmeat.com

Vegan Food Festivals are happening all over North America. A listing is at americanvegan.org/vegfests

World Vegfest news is at ivu.org/world-vegfest. These crowded fun events feature free tastings, speakers, information.

Vegan TV commercials on Channel 6 CBS News, Albany NY were contracted to run through 2021. The 30-second spots, featuring Glendora Buell, are broadcast at 6:30 pm EST, available on demand, and streamlined around the world.

The Internet is forcing change, showing why and how to go vegan through websites, blogs, and social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Pinterest.

The United Nations designated February 10 2019 as the first annual World Pulses Day, a global event to recognize the importance of peas, beans, and lentils as sustainable protein sources, also called legumes. The United States Department of Agriculture encourages people to get more of their protein from plants by eating these foods.

In 2019 the Million Dollar Vegan Campaign challenged the Pope to go vegan for Lent in exchange for a million dollars for charity. 12-year-old Genesis led the publicity campaign. This year 9-year-old Evan is challenging President Trump to go vegan in exchange for a million dollars for veterans.
