Glendora Vegeterian Club

Does Amelia Earhart have any local ties to us? Yes, the Aeronautical Museum in Schenectady/Scotia has a replica of her plane. In 1931 she married author and publisher George Putnam of Rye, NY, Westchester Co. Before she disappeared over the Pacific Ocean in July, 1937, at age 40, she lived on Locust Ave. just south of Harrison, NY, on the border of White Plains. That street is now Amelia Earhart Lane. What was she trying to do? She was trying to be the first person to fly around the world. It is believed that her plane ran out of fuel, and she was declared lost at sea in January, 1939. Is there a statue of Earhart in Harrison? Yes, at the railroad station. Glendora, why are you so enamored of this circumstance? Around 1983 I lived in White Plains just 6 blocks from where Amelia Earhart lived.
