Keeping new year resolutions.

Some of you have resolved to eat healthier–to keep well and help your fitness goals. Some are trying to be vegan–because you care about animals and want all the slaughterhouses to close. At the beginning of the new year, you may be finding it harder than imagined putting this into practice.

It is time to find friends and team up. Anyone trying to improve their diet is a good ally.

Healthy-eating guides stress the importance of consuming fruits and vegetables—raw and cooked (fresh, frozen, or  canned). These foods contain vital nutrients for health and body maintenance. Fruits and vegetables are vegan foods, suitable for everyone.

Grains are the largest food group people eat; examples are bread, rice, pasta, corn, and oatmeal. These can be refined, refined enriched, or kept whole grain–the best way to get their fiber, minerals, and vitamins, with carbs. Here are more vegan foods to enjoy!

People commonly think that the important protein foods are fish, meat, poultry, and eggs. But to reduce your intake of cholesterol and saturated fat, (and the possibility of getting excess protein or food poisoning), choose beans, peas, lentils, soy products, nuts, and seeds. These good sources of protein from plants also provide fiber, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Make the vegan choice!

What about milk? Cow’s milk is not the only option to pour on your cereal. Try soy, almond, and other milks made from plants—they are a boon to people with allergies and lactose intolerance. As a calcium source also look to leafy greens, sesame seeds, dried figs, and other plant sources. Go Vegan!
