Church of the Redeemer

RENSSELAER – Summer hours for Sundays consists of one service at 9:00. This week, July 19, Rev. Sue Troiano, the Associate Rector at St. Peter’s in Albany and Chair of the Commission on Ministry for the Diocese of Albany, will be conducting our service. Guidelines from the diocese include using hand sanitizer, wearing face masks which cover both the nose and the mouth, and social distancing. There is a sanitizing station as you enter the Church with face masks if you do not have your own. The church is marked 6 ft. intervals to aid in social distancing. Communion is by host only. Coffee hour is suspended until further notice.

While Bible Study is also suspended, Hot Mess Crafters are meeting in the Hearth Room on Wednesday at 10 AM. We are following diocesan safety guidelines.

The Church of the Redeemer is located in Rensselaer at the corner of Third and Catherine Streets.

Please continue calling your loved ones to let them know you are thinking of them.

Zion’s United Church of Christ of Taborton Welcomes New Minister

SAND LAKE – Zion’s UCC of Taborton has called Rev. Hafidha F. Saadiqah as our next settled, full-time minister. Pastor Hafidha officially began her ministry in February. Throughout the spring she spent time learning about our congregation, moving to an online worship, and ministering to the needs of the community.

Pastor Hafidha was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and is ordained in both the United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalist Association. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Capital University (Ohio), she attended Princeton Theological Seminary (New Jersey) and received her Master of Divinity in 1997. She has served Unitarian Universalist congregations, as well those spanning the Presbyterian, UCC, and United Methodist denominations.

Hafidha (“Huh-fee-duh”) is passionate about religious and spiritual literacy, congregational identity and integrity, and social witness. She has developed skills in non-violent communication, conflict transformation, appreciative inquiry and family systems.

Rev. Saadiqah is married to Rev. Edwin Heilman, also a UCC minister. Together they have 5 adult children, and share their home with Bella, a 12 year-old miniature Dachshund, and Martin, a 3 year-old orange tabby cat. When she is not doing church work, you can find her either reading, baking, binge watching sci-fi films, or in antique malls looking for vintage fountain pens; she repairs and uses them.

During this search process our church got to know a kind, warm, considerate person. Upon moving to Taborton Mountain, Hafidha immediately fell in love with the “picturesque” setting.

While searching for a minister we have reminded ourselves of our church’s vision, to be “United in Christ’s love, a just world for all.” We confirmed that we are a congregation which is welcoming, supportive, caring and loving.

We encourage you to follow us on Facebook for live services or visit tabortonzion.org for videos and information. Join us and meet Pastor Hafidha!
