Easter Egg Hunt and Games

BRUNSWICK – Brunswick Church Hosts “Easter Egg Hunt … and More!” – Saturday, April 9, 3-5 pm

Groups Welcome!

Spring is coming and Brunswick Church invites you to celebrate God’s faithfulness and love with an afternoon of hunting for Easter eggs and more, Saturday, April 9 from 3-5 pm. 

We invite children, youth and adults of all ages to stop by Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane for a variety of fun activities. Join in the hunt for Easter eggs and try your hand at games like Corn Hole, super-sized Jenga and Kerplunk, make and Easter craft, or enjoy some laughs with our Minute-to-Win-It competitions. Whatever your game, we’ve got you covered, and we hope to see you.

Admission: Free – but please consider bringing a donation for Joseph’s House shelter and outreach vans of new socks or personal items such as body wash, deodorant, sunscreen, toilet paper or bottled water. Thank you!

Lansingburgh Candlelight Worship Service for People of Ukraine

Trinity Church Lansingburgh, 585 4th Avenue in Troy, invites families, friends and neighbors to a community/neighborhood candlelight worship service of peace, encouragement and prayers for the people of Ukraine on Saturday, April 2nd at 6:30 P.M. 

Our speaker will be Father Vasyl Dovgan, parish priest of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Troy. The service will feature prayers, music in both English and Ukrainian, and the collection of a special offering for the people of Ukraine.

Church of the Redeemer

Sunday service on April 3 is at 9 AM. Join us in the Heart Room after service for coffee hour and socializing. Please remember to bring food items to be delivered to the Food Pantry during Holy Week. 

Thrift Shop Bag Sale: A bag sale of clothing and shoes will be held on Thursday, March 31, from 3-6 and continue on Saturday, April 2, from 9-2. Bags will be provided and sold for $4.00 per bag. 

Hot Mess Crafters meet every Wednesday at 10 AM. Come to learn or teach a craft.

Bible Study meets every Wednesday in the Hearth Room at 3:30. 

The Church of the Redeemer is an Episcopal church located on CDTA bus route #214 at the corner of Third and Catherine Streets. There is handicap parking, a ramp in front, and a parking lot in the rear.

Easter Happenings

CASTLETON – As we move into the middle of Lent, a time of preparation and reflection upon the events leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus, Emmanuel Reformed Church of Castleton has set a schedule of events that you are invited to. Easter week begins on Palm Sunday with Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem that we celebrate April 10 this year at 9:30 am. 

On Maundy Thursday, April 14, when Jesus gave the mandate to his disciples to “do this in remembrance of me”, we will have a potluck supper at 6:00 pm followed by worship at 7:00 pm where we commemorate the last supper Jesus had with his disciples. On Good Friday, April 15 at noon we will walk a cross from the church to the Horizon View Cemetery (about 1.25 miles) to sing songs and read scripture and where we will return on Easter morning at 6:00 am to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior. 

We will also have a Celebration of the Resurrection at 9:30 am in the sanctuary at 1150 Maple Hill Rd. If you have any questions please call the church office at 518-732-7766. We have plenty of parking and have a lift for access to our fellowship hall.

Easter Egg Hunt

CASTLETON – Easter is just around the corner and Emmanuel Reformed Church in Castleton is gearing up for the joy it brings. On Saturday, April 16 at 11:00 am we will have an Egg Hunt for young children and a Hunt for Easter for older children. The hunts will begin with a word from our pastor about the meaning of Easter and then the younger children will be set free to gather the goodies that have been hidden outside. The older children will go on a treasure hunt to learn about what happened leading up to that day and get just as many goodies to enjoy. Join us for Our Easter Egg Hunt

CENTER BRUNSWICK – Gilead Lutheran Church will again hold an old fashioned Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 16. Our hunt was so successful last year that this year we’ve decided to have 3 separate hunts based on age groups: Age 5 and under will begin at 10 am; over 5 through 9 will be at 10:45 a.m. and ages 10 and over will be at 11:30 a.m. 

Plastic treat-filled eggs will be provided. We will be outside, dress for the weather. If you would like to support our egg hunt, we are accepting donations of filled plastic eggs. You can call the church office at 518-279-9270 or email akeefer.gilead@nullgmail.com to set up a drop off time.

Easter at Saint John’s Episcopal Church

For the children at Easter: A Children’s Bell Choir, ages 3 and up, will rehearse right after the 10 am service on April 3rd and 10th church in anticipation of their playing at the 11 am service on Easter Sunday. An Easter Egg Hunt follows this service. Be in touch with the church office to participate.

The Thrift Store features clothes for adults and children, household items such as small appliances, quilts and decorations, and the popular holiday room, all available at low prices for masked patrons to peruse. Hours for shopping and dropping off are from 9 to 12 on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Our next food pantry, which includes fresh produce, will be Saturday, April 2, from 10 until noon.

Lenten candlelight meditations: Fridays, 5-6 p.m. March 25th, April 1st and April 8th: enjoy a quiet hour of beautiful, candlelit meditation in the Church, accompanied intermittently by instrumental music.

Spring Rummage Sale at Church of the Covenant

AVERILL PARK – When you are overcome by the urge to clean and purge please think of the Church of the Covenant United Methodist, “The Round Church”, 3055 NY 43, Averill Park, NY. 

We will be having our ever popular clothing only rummage sale on June 10th and 11th. We will be accepting donations May 31st – June 8th. We are unable to accept donations sooner due to our lack of storage. Donations may include all clothing, shoes, boots, purses, etc. (anything wearable). Also, bedding, towels, curtains, craft and sewing items. No household goods. 

Those can be saved for the indoor yard sale in July. Watch The Advertiser for exact dates. We thank you in advance for sending only items in the condition you would expect as a shopper. Fifth Thursday Mission at St Paul’s Church to Help Aid Ukraine and UMCOR

CASTLETON – There is something happening every Thursday at St Paul’s Church in Castleton! The first and third Thursdays of each month are ArtMoot. At ArtMoot, middle and high schoolers gather to discuss life and create art in a safe space. Bring your art projects or play a game with new friends!

The second and fourth Thursday events are called Recharge. Recharge is a 30 minute casual worship and message, followed by a light meal and discussion. 

In months with a fifth Thursdays, we do an all church mission to help those in need throughout the world. Join us on 3/31 at 6pm to build hygiene kits for UMCOR and collect medical supplies for Ukraine. We are partnering with St Peter’s Hospital and the St Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Albany to send medical supplies to Ukraine.

Brunswick Church Holy Week Services

Holy Week will begin with Palm Sunday, will proceed to the somber service of Maundy Thursday, and then culminate with the joyous celebration of Easter Sunday! 

We would like to extend a warm invitation to the community to participate in any or all of our services that week. The Palm Sunday service will be on April 10 at 9:30 AM. Following will be Maundy Thursday on April 14, where we will have a simple soup supper at 6PM, followed by a service at 7PM. There will be two celebrations on Easter Sunday, April 17 – a sunrise service at 6:30 AM in the cemetery behind the church, and a 9:30 AM service in the Worship Center.

Light a candle for Ukraine

Everyone is welcome to come to Church of the Covenant United Methodist, “the round church”, 3055 NY 43, Averill Park, NY every Wednesday. We have a weekly communion service from 7:30-8:30 pm. In addition, Church of the Covenant has adoptted an “open door” policy until 9:00 pm.

Anyone who wants to “light” a candle and/or pray can stop in. LED candles will be available to leave at the altar. It will be an open time of prayer so participants may come and go as they wish.

Looking forward to praying for peace with you. There are currently 22 countries at war – including Ukraine. The world needs us to come together for wholeness and holiness.

Lenten Zoom Luncheon (BYOL)
Stephentown Federated Church

Pastor Chris Garrison from the Stephentown Federated Church will be hosting a Lenten Zoom Luncheon (BYOL). The discussion will include the Lenten devotional readings from “Devotional – Ash Wednesday – Sanctuary for Lent 2022 – by Danielle Kim´ and the lectionary readings for the week. 

The Zooms will be held each Tuesday from 12 to 1:30 March 6th through April 12th. A Zoom link will be sent to anyone interested on each Tuesday. Grace United Methodist Church Fundraiser

Grace UMC in Nassau is holding a fundraiser featuring pies from Smith’s Orchard. 

Orders must be placed by April 9 and pies will be available for pickup on Saturday, April 30th.

Delicious pie flavors available are : Apple , Blueberry, Cherry, Peach, Raspberry, Strawberry Rhubarb, Very Berry or Pecan. Fruit pies are available in double crust or single crust with crumb topping.

Pies arrive frozen and boxed, with full baking instructions. $14 per pie

Support for Parents of Children with Disabilities

BRUNSWICK – Do you have a child with various disabilities or other needs? You are cordially invited to participate in a support group from the comfort of your own home! This is an opportunity to share concerns, insights, and resources to help navigate through both rewarding and challenging times. The host is Connie Vooys, a former special education teacher and mother to a special needs child. 

The group meets via zoom on the first and third Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM, and is open to all parents and caregivers without regard to geographic or religious boundaries. If you are interested, please write to office@nullbrunswickchurch.org and Connie will send you an online link to the group and answer any questions you may have. Sometimes a bit of encouragement makes all the difference!

Calling All Knitters

BRUNSWICK – Are you someone who likes to knit, but you’ve already made everything you need for yourself and your family? We have a great opportunity where you can use your skill to help others! You are welcome to participate in our Prayer Shawl Knitting Group every first and third Thursday at 12:30 PM in the lobby at Brunswick Church. Shawls are made to share and bring comfort to those who are ill or suffering, and they have always been very much appreciated. For more details about joining the group, or if you know of someone who could use a prayer shawl, please call the church office at 518-279-3792. 

This is a ministry of Brunswick Church at 42 White Church Lane (just off Rt. 351). Our worship services are Sundays at 9:30 AM and all are welcome; however, church attendance is not required to join the knitting group or to request a prayer shawl.

Cancer Support Group

BRUNSWICK – There are very few of us who have not been affected by cancer, either as a patient, family member, or friend. If you are dealing with the stress of this disease for whatever reason, talking with others in similar circumstances can be very beneficial. 

A warm invitation is extended to attend a Zoom cancer support group, led once a month (the third Monday) by retired pastor Ted Wright, he himself a cancer patient. If you have any questions or would like the zoom link, please contact Ted at twright@nullbrunswickchurch.org. 

This is a ministry in conjunction with Brunswick Church at 42 White Church Lane (just off Rt. 351). Our worship services are Sundays at 9:30 AM and all are welcome. Church participation is not required to have cancer support.
