An update from Sand Lake Baptist Church

Greetings from Sand Lake Baptist Church! What a wonderful blessing it is to be a part of this community. The love, support and fellowship we’ve shared within Sand Lake and neighboring towns over the many years has been immeasurable. As many know, we’ve had periods of transition for a couple of years now. This message to our beloved community is to give an update on the health and well-being of our church. Although we are currently without a pastor, our congregation is strong and united. The Lord will provide a pastor to us in His time.

Meanwhile, the Lord is providing for all our needs with many blessings. Messages are being given every Sunday morning from some of the most knowledgeable, gifted and powerful speakers of the Word of God in our area! Our schedule consistently remains booked about two months ahead with the promise of being fed exciting and informative messages. We would like to extend a special “Thank You” to all of those individuals who have visited, as well as the many churches that have supported us.

As we get closer to the celebration of the Resurrection of Our Savior, we have a full schedule of special services for the entire week. This begins with Palm Sunday at 11 AM and continues with an Upper Room Service on Thursday at 6 PM with the Lord’s Supper; Good Friday Service at 6 PM; Sunrise Service at 7 AM, followed by breakfast; and our regularly scheduled Easter Sunday Service at 11 AM. All of these services will be led by our Deacon with a special message for all. Come share the Word of God with us!

Plans for our annual Strawberry Festival are already being discussed as well as many other community involved events. We pray that we continue to be as much of a blessing to our community as you have been to us. For regularly updated information about SLBC’s schedule, weekly guest speakers and special events; please visit our newly revamped website.

God Bless, Deacon Russ Chamberlain on behalf of the members of SLBC, Sand Lake

First United Methodist Church Storytelling Night

We are people of story. Our traditions, religions, histories, and biographies are compilations of stories told and received, handed down, edited, redacted, metaphorized, dreamed up.

Storytelling Night is a monthly evening of food, fellowship, and storytelling. We gather monthly around the stories of people. And, we believe that each story – of our fears, of our hopes, of our lives, of our families, of our undoing, of our renaissance, of our redemption – can be inspiring to us and to others . . . but only if that story is shared. The practice of storytelling (and of story-hearing) is an essential part of being human, and we want to encourage, uplift, facilitate, and gather around the telling and hearing of stories. Join us if you want to share or hear a story!

Wednesday April Fifth: Roberta Reno, East Greenbush Town Historian.

Wednesday May Third: Robert Thomsen, the Choir Director of the First UMC of East Greenbush.

Wednesdays at 7 PM

Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Troy

Join us for numerous seasonal events. During Lent, we will have the Stations of the Cross at noon on Fridays, led by Deacons Bill and Sandra Tatem. On March 17, 24, 31 from 5 to 6 pm we will enjoy our candlelight meditations, where we are invited into the beauty of our candlelit sanctuary in silence, with music playing intermittently. Musicians this year will include March 17th, Tiffany Dzembo or Angelina Valente, sopranos; March 24th, The Rev. Darius Mojallali, violin; and March 31st, Lauren Hunn, piano.

Sunday in-person worship gathers at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The 8 a.m. spoken service follows a more ancient Eucharistic Rite in Elizabethan English. The 10 a.m. modern Eucharistic Rite is preceded by hymns on the tower chime and is both live-streamed and in-person. During Lent, however, we will observe the more ancient rite until Easter. Hymns are accompanied on the regal pipe organ, and Communion music is often from contemporary repertoire. And now the choir has begun to sing again! For more information about music at Saint John’s, be in touch with Tiffany Dzembo, Choir Director, at tdzembo@nullstjohnstroy.org. Coffee hour follows the 10 a.m. service. Join us!

Sunday School has resumed! Children can draw near to God as they reflect on passages of Scripture and elements of liturgy in a hands-on curriculum, Sundays at 10 am. For information about this, our Thursday after-school program, or upcoming family events, be in touch with Gaby Gastelum, Children’s Christian Education Director, at ggastelum@nullstjohnstroy.org.

Cancer Support Group

BRUNSWICK – There are very few of us who have not been affected by cancer, either as a patient, family member, or friend. If you are dealing with the stress of this disease for whatever reason, talking with others in similar circumstances can be very beneficial.

A warm invitation is extended to attend a Zoom cancer support group, led once a month (the third Monday) by retired pastor Ted Wright, he himself a cancer patient. If you have any questions or would like the zoom link, please contact Ted at twright@nullbrunswickchurch.org.

This is a ministry in conjunction with Brunswick Church at 42 White Church Lane (just off Rt. 351). Our worship services are Sundays at 9:30 AM and all are welcome. Church participation is not required to have cancer support.
