Introduction to QiGong at Troy Public Library*
QiGong is an ancient Chinese art that empowers you to help yourself by activating your inner resources for self-healing and reducing stress through breathing techniques, postures and mindful focus. The Troy Public Library will present Diana Wells, certified QiGong teacher, in a series of 4 introductory classes to be held Monday evenings, December 3, December 10 & December 17, at 6:00pm. Classes are free, but space is limited so registration is required.

Ancestry.com Tutorials at North Greenbush Public Library
Library Trustee and North Greenbush Town Historian, Jim Greenfield, is offering free personal tutorials on the use of ancestry.com. Ancestry Library Edition is available at the library and provides access to 7,000 databases delivering an extraordinary online collection of genealogy information. Children’s Holiday Shopping Day
On Saturday, December 1st, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., children may shop for family and friends at the Nassau Library holiday store which will be set up in the library’s community room. They will be able to choose from a variety of knickknacks, holiday ornaments, costume jewelry and other seasonal items. Prices are guaranteed to be affordable, and the library’s volunteens will be on hand to help wrap gifts. The library will accept donations for the sale (both gift items and wrapping material) until Friday, November 30th. When considering making a donation, please ask yourself if the item is in like-new condition and if it is something a family member would truly enjoy receiving.
This program is held annually in memory of former longtime Nassau Library director Carolyn Sherman.

In the Village: A Short Story Reading with Ellen Adler
Join us at the Troy Public Library on Sunday, December 9th, at 2pm, for a story hour for grownups. Having recently moved to Troy from Vermont, Ellen Adler enjoyed a stint reading her own poems and stories on Vermont Public Radio. Now living a mere few blocks away from the Troy Public Library she is enjoying the great vitality of Troy. This will be her second short story reading at the library.
In the Village by Elizabeth Bishop portrays a time in the author’s childhood. It took nearly Bishop’s entire lifetime to reveal the resonance and discord of this tumultuous period. It is a brilliant work which fills the listener with deep compassion, and the force compels one to remain quite nearly on the edge of their seat.

Alzheimer’s Education Workshop: Know the 10 Signs
Join us at the Troy Public Library on Tuesday, December 4th, at 3:00 pm for this educational workshop. If you or someone you know is experiencing memory loss or behavioral changes, it’s time to learn the facts. Early detection of Alzheimer’s disease gives you a chance to begin drug therapy, enroll in clinical studies and plan for the future. This interactive workshop features video clips of people with Alzheimer’s disease.

The Holidays are Coming & My Family Drives Me Crazy
The holidays are coming. Maybe there is someone in your family you have negative feelings towards. This person annoys you, is difficult to get along with or you just don’t like him or her at all. You think about something they have said or done and can’t stop thinking about it. Yet, it’s that time of year when you have to deal with them. You feel stressed just thinking about it.
Join us at the Troy Public Library on December 12th, at 6:00 pm, EFT Tapping Coach, Juanita Ecker will be teaching this unique wellness workshop. EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a self-tapping technique that reduces stress and calms the nervous system. You will learn how to better manage those negative emotions that surface over the holidays. Come learn how to de-stress with EFT.

Light Up the Library in Poestenkill
The Friends of the Poestenkill Library invite you to give a holiday gift that helps the Library while honoring or remembering someone special. Each December we “light up the library” with colorful strings of lights representing the many gifts that donors send. Often the gifts are tributes to friends or family, who receive notices from the Friends of the Library that someone has given in their honor. All the donations allow the Library to buy new books and offer special programs during the year.
Donors of $100 are recognized with a candle, and donors of $75 are recognized with a wreath, in one of the Library windows. Altogether, the lights, candles and wreaths turn the Library building into a beautiful symbol of the generosity of the season!

Hannaford Helps The North Greenbush Public Library
The North Greenbush Public Library has been selected as a beneficiary of the Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program for the month of December. The Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program launched in October 2015 and is designed to support local non-profits through the sale of reusable “Community” shopping bags. The library was selected by Hannaford store leadership as the December beneficiary of the program at the Wynantskill Hannaford store. For every reusable Community Bag purchased at the Wynantskill Hannaford during December, the library will receive a $1 donation.
