Week 1 Of N. C. Library Summer Program Coming Up!

Come join us for summer fun! The North Chatham Library will be hosting the first week of its Summer Program from July 8-14. Take a journey through the delicious Herbs program with the Garden Club of Kinderhook on July 8, 12-2pm, and learn about the Phases of the Moon with Mud Creek Environmental on July 9, 12-2pm. July 10 and 11, 12-2 pm, will bring a two-day workshop in Coding and Robotics for kids where you’ll build your own mouse robot with Cornell Cooperative extension. On July 14 at 3 pm, internationally acclaimed dance troupe Vanaver Caravan will help us learn different styles of dance from around the world at the North Chatham Firehouse. Founders Bill and Livia Vanaver have performed all over the world, and will lead the all-ages dance workshop through multiple cultural traditions, historical moments, and social movements, all while telling the stories behind the dances. This project was made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Greene County Council on the Arts. We can’t wait, and we hope you’ll come join us for the fun!

The North Chatham Free Library

The NCFL will host an international dance workshop for all ages on Sunday, July 14th at 3pm. Led by Bill and Livia Vanaver, founders of Vanaver Caravan, the workshop will be held at the North Chatham Firehouse in order to accommodate space for dancing. Bill and Livia say, “We do not simply teach the steps of a dance.  We teach the stories behind the dances linking to history, folklore, social movements, and cultural traditions.” Bill will also perform and talk about some of his experiences with ethnic music from around the world. Come to listen and to dance, or just sit back and watch the fun.
