AWANA Kids Club

AWANA is a Christian kids club mixing fun games and activities with thoughtful devotions and Bible memorization. Open to preschool children through grade six, meeting Wednesdays, 6-8pm, at Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane (off Rt. 351). Defensive Driving Class

Gilead Lutheran Church will host a 6-hour defensive driving class on Saturday, April 6, 2019, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. This is a NYS DMV approved class that will offer a 10% reduction off your auto insurance and up to 4 points off your NYS driver’s license! Exciting and interactive PowerPoint presentation and never a test to pass the course! Cost of this class is just $30 per person and must be paid at the door. Doors open at 8:30 AM. Lunch items will be available for sale for an additional cost. Gilead church is located at 308 Brick Church Road (Route 278), Troy. We are handicapped accessible and have loads of free close parking. SPACES ARE LIMITED and will sell out fast -again- at this price!!  To reserve your seat, please call John at 279-9552.  Please drive safely! Holiday Mitten Tree

The weather is getting colder, so stay warm by visiting the Holiday Mitten Tree, sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rensselaer County. Stop by the Cornell Cooperative Extension office between 8:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, to grab a warm hat, gloves or scarf. All items are free of charge, so take what you and your family need. Donations of winter clothing items will also be gladly accepted. The Cornell Cooperative Extension office is located on the second floor at 61 State St., Troy.

Do You Need Health Insurance?

It is the Open Enrollment period for New York State of Health. Join us at the Troy Public Library on Wednesdays, December 19th – January 30th from 2PM-5PM to explore your options.  Health Insurance Navigators will be on hand to assist you and can help you apply.  The health insurance navigators take the time to help each person look at the tax credits they might be eligible for to lower the cost of health insurance and then to choose an insurance plan that best meets each person’s healthcare needs.

East Side Seniors

Our next meeting will be on JAN. 8th, 2019 at the American Legion Post in Wynantskill, beginning at 1:00. If the Wynantskill schools are closed due to the WEATHER, our meetings will be canceled. Also, if the TROY SCHOOLS are on a 2 hour delay due to the WEATHER, Bocce ball league will be canceled. Come January 1st, Membership dues are DUE. We will have nominations for new officers and an election will be held. We will discuss upcoming events including Wildwood, N.J. upcoming on June 9th. New members always welcome and familiar ones are good to see.

 

 

Literacy Volunteers Offers Free Training

The Winter 2019 Tutor Training Workshop will begin on Saturday, January 5, at Hudson Valley Community College in the Viking Child Care Center, 180 Williams Road, Troy, NY. To find out more about becoming a tutor and all the other ways to help, join Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County for a free Volunteer Opportunities Information Session on Thursday, January 3, 12:30-1:30 p.m. at 71 First Street, 3rd Floor, Troy, NY 12180. Call (518) 244-4650 to reserve a place. LVORC is looking for volunteer tutors to be paired with adult learners, reading mentors for Everybody WINS! Power Lunch, math and computer tutors, and events volunteers. As a volunteer you can develop new skills, make friends, and see how your efforts make a difference in your community.
