I Love My Library Shopping Day

Market Block Books, 290 River Street, is graciously hosting a fundraising event for the Troy Public Library on Sunday, November 18th, from 11AM-3PM. Market Block Books will donate 20% of all sales to support the Troy Public Library (no bonus book cards or other discounts will be available on this date).  Come out and support your library and get a head start on your holiday shopping! Make your purchase count doubly by purchasing an item from the library’s wish list and donate both the item plus 20% of the sale to the library!

Craft Fair

The University Parish of Christ Sun of Justice at the Capel and Cultural Center on 2125 Burdett Avenue in Troy, will hold its annual craft fair on Sat., Nov. 17th, from 3-6:30pm; and Sun., Nov. 18th, after each Mass (9am, 10:30am and 5pm). Oakwood Cemetery Family Christmas Concert

Join us on Saturday, Dec. 8th, with a snow date of Sunday, Dec. 9th, 1pm; $10 per family.

Reservations with payment are required by Friday, December 7th. Seating is limited. Annual Fresh Florida Citrus Fundraiser

The yearly Troy Kiwanis Fresh Florida Fruit sale is on again

to raise money for projects that directly assist Troy area youth. 20 lbs. for only $25

Navel Oranges, Ruby Red Grapefruit or a Mixed Case.

Most area groups are charging well over $30/case.

Orders must be received by Sunday 11/18. Call Dean at 518-322-0826. Fruit will arrive in Troy, by 12/13, in plenty of time for Holiday Gift Giving!

AWANA is a Christian kids club mixing fun games and activities with thoughtful devotions and Bible memorization. Holiday Pop-Up Tours at Oakwood Chapel

Do you have relatives coming from out of town for Thanksgiving? Are you wondering how you’ll amuse them after you’ve done all the turkey dinner and Black Friday stuff?  Here’s your chance to impress them with something completely different!

The Friends of Oakwood will offer guided tours of the Gardner Earl Chapel at 1pm and 2pm on Saturday, November 24th, for just $10. per person. Children under 12 are free. Registration is not required, but each tour will be limited to 40 people with priority going to registrants. The castle-like Earl Chapel is a National Historic Landmark boasting spectacular stained-glass windows, oak carvings and marble mosaics. The Social History of Washington Park

On Tuesday, November 20th, at 6:30PM, Steve Muller, co-author of “Washington Park, Troy, New York: A Social History,” published by the Rensselaer County Historical Society, will review the history of Troy’s most prestigious 19th century neighborhood and relate some of the many stories about the important and interesting people who lived there. Copies of the book will be available for sale.

Thanksgiving Dinner

The Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church will host a family-style, sit-down dinner on Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd. Dinner will be served at 2PM in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

RPI Chapel + Cultural Center Honored for their 50th Anniversary

The Chapel + Cultural Center, a multipurpose performing arts and worship space that serves the educational, cultural, social, and spiritual needs of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the surrounding Troy and greater Capital Region communities was honored by Rensselaer County Democratic Minority Leader Cindy Doran on their 50th Anniversary.

A proclamation was presented by Legislator Cindy Doran to Fr. Ed Kacerguis, Pastor of the University Parish of Christ Sun of Justice, to Fran Hyde, President of the Rensselaer Newman Foundation, and to Kevin Krillik, Director of the Chapel + Cultural Center.

At a large, tastefully-appointed Sneden’s Landing townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, four couples are about to experience a severe attack of Farce. Gathering for their tenth wedding anniversary, the host lies bleeding in the other room, and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken, and wife, Chris, must get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and mis-communications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.
