The Thanksgiving holidays didn’t prevent Averill Park from winter sports action. The girls’ Varsity basketball team hosted a tip-off tournament on 11/23 and 11/24. They defeated Columbia in their opening game 63-36. Kelsey Wood recorded 18 points, and Amelia Wood and Emmalee Morgan each had 16. On 11/24, AP took down Shaker 54-42 to capture the championship win. Amelia Wood added 15 more points for AP and was named the Tournament MVP.
Averill Park’s new merged hockey team, the Capital District Jets, had their first two games this past week. They lost 7-1 in their season opener on 11/23 and on 11/24 they fell to Mamaroneck 9-1. Averill Park senior Tristan Shelhamer had an assist in the first game and scored the only goal in the second for the Jets.
