AVERILL PARK – Hello Warrior Fans! Winter sports are fully underway as of last week.

The girls basketball team had a great start to their season, as they defeated Columbia 70-41 on 11/30.  Amelia Wood led the team with 21 points while Michelina Lombardi added 19 and Taylor Holohan added 12. The girls team went on to beat South Glens falls in the first round of the tip-off tournament on 12/3, with an 81-38 final score. Four players were in double figures. Amelia Wood led the pack with 18 points, Michelina Lombardi had 15, Taylor Holohan had 14, and Kayleigh Ahern had 10. The girls faced Burnt Hills in the championship the next night, beating them 60-52. Tournament MVP Amelia Wood led the girls with 18 points. Senior Michelina Lombardi was named to the all-tournament team. The girls basketball team will travel to Ballston Spa for their next game on 12/10.

The boys basketball team fell short to Columbia 53-40 on 11/30. Dan Coiteux led the team scoring 19 points. Nicholas Galuski and Ethan Nardacci each had 8 points. The boys will face Ballston Spa on 12/10 for their next game.

The Capital District Jets, Averill Park’s hockey team, defeated the Niskayuna/Schenectady Mohawks 5-2 in their season opener on 11/27. Brendan Walsh scored and Kyle Millington had an assist in the winning effort. The hockey team fell 9-2 against Adirondak on 12/3. Kyle Millington scored for the Jets. The hockey team will travel to Guilderland for their next game on 12/10.

The wrestling team lost 51-21 against Shenendehowa on 12/1. Jacob Hanlon, Jacob Morgans, Mike Steen, and Edward Marcus won their matches. The wrestling team will face Guilderland on 12/15 in their next match.

The bowling team defeated Ballston Spa 28-4 in their season opener on 11/30. Jacob Kellar had a high single of 267. Evan Coon bowled a 258 and Yoshua Blowers bowled a 246 in the winning effort. The boys went on to defeat Saratoga 21-11 on 12/1. Joe Minehan had a 678 high triple and a 279 high single while Hunter Willett had a 253 single. The boys team travels to Troy for their next match on 12/9.

The girls bowling team fell to Schenectady 25-7 on 11/30. Laney Brown and Anna Wicks each had a high series of 507. The girls team picked up their first win of the season on 12/1, beating Saratoga 25-7. Emma Hotaling had a 490 high series and Laney Brown had a 196 high game. The bowling team will travel to Niskayuna on 12/13 for their next match.
