AVERILL PARK – Hello Warrior Fans! All fall sports are currently underway. 

The boys soccer team defeated Ballston Spa on 9/9 with a 2-1 final score. Nate O’Connor and Hayden Kiehl scored the two goals to seal the victory. The boys team moved to 3-0 on 9/11, beating Saratoga 2-1.  Hayden Kiehl and Kyle Almeida scored in the winning effort. Kiehl’s goal was from 35 feet out which was thanks to an impressive steal and assist from Liam Fitch. The soccer team will look to stay unbeaten against Troy on 9/18.

The girls soccer team started off their week with a huge 5-0 win against South Glens Falls on 9/7. Merry Gaylord led the team with two goals while Maddi Locci, Gabby Geisse, and Ally Bendett all scored as well. The girls team continued their undefeated streak, beating Ballston Spa 1-0 on 9/9 thanks to the lone second half goal by Merry Gaylord. The soccer team ended their match on 9/11 with a 0-0 tie against Saratoga. The girls will face Troy on 9/18 in their next game.

The boys cross country team placed in second overall for the large school division at the Voorhesville invitational meet on 9/11. Colin Brunelle finished in first overall out of 72 runners with a time of 17:16. Evan Sweet and Matt Dejulio followed in second and third for AP. The cross country teams will run in the Adirondak Classic Invitational on 9/18.

The Troy-AP conjoined girls swimming team had their first meet on 9/8, where they defeated Shaker 94-76. The swim team will travel to Guilderland for their next meet on 9/22.

The golf team fell to Ballston Spa 258-271 on 9/9. Dave Mooradian and Josh Durocher both shot 43 in the loss. The boys lost 245-276 on 9/10 to Saratoga. Dave Mooradian led the team once again, shooting a 42. The golf team will face Niskayuna in their next match on 9/20.

The football team lost 40-0 against CBA on 9/10. They look to turn it around against Queensbury on 9/18.

The girls tennis team fell 7.5-1.5 to Ballston Spa on 9/9. The following day, the girls team lost 9-0 against Saratoga. The girls will take on Troy on 9/18 in their next match.

Joe Stevens, Jr. #33 Memorial Award

AVERILL PARK – I’d like to take this opportunity to announce that Olin Wagner is the 2021 recipient of the Joe Stevens Jr. #33 Memorial Award. This award is given to a senior who played football for APHS and demonstrated leadership, dedication, loyalty and honesty on and off the field. Given in Memory of Joe who wore #33 and was a 2001 graduate of APHS. Olin was voted unanimously by the members of the football team, stating he exemplified the most qualities like Joe did. Olin’s name has been added to the Memorial Scholarship plaque and will be displayed outside the high school gym. I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed, and made this award possible to present for the 19th year. Thank you again.
